Vollenweider Riesling Spätlese Wolfer Goldgrube 2024

From importer vom Boden: Few people make Mosel Rieslings with more intensity. You would call these Rieslings Baroque if they weren’t so delineated, so defined. These wines are glossy multiplicities of fruit ravished by slate and acidity. 

The Goldgrube Spätlese 2024, as it is referred to on the consumer label, was harvested on very old un-grafted vines in the Portz sector of the vineyard, a south-west facing and higher up the hill vineyard and was fermented down to sweet levels of residual sugar. This offers a superb nose of bitter grapefruit, smoke, chalk, gooseberry, and whipped cream. The wine is superbly playful and elegant on the palate with real Spätlese light creaminess and zest. It proves engaging and fresh in the long and juicy finish. This is a gorgeously tart and beautifully complex expression of Spätlese in the making.
